It originated in 19th century Russia, and was soon being grown in the northern USA on account of its excellent cold-hardiness. Self-fertility: Not self-fertile. Pollination group: 3. Antonovka apples are some of the hardiest apples around! They also breed ?close? to type. They are large, green, and tart. Better eaten when cooked, but fantastic for wildlife. Summer shipping: In container with soil (leaves will be removed or cut short to conserve on water consumption), in the mailing tube or box. (May trough September).
