In this article, California artist Carolyn Lord discusses how she paints on location the myriad color relationships of flower gardens. STEPHEN GJERSON, by Annette LeSueur Hathaway. After dropping out of art school because he was not allowed to study from the Old Masters, this Minnesota artist enrolled in Atelier Lack, a small studio-type school in St. Paul which emphasizes the traditional teaching methods of earlier masters. Gjertson, who is now teaching at Atelier Lack, here describes his classic approach to painting his expressive figure paintings and floral and fruit arrangements.
