FRONT COVER: Young Boy, by Leatrice Rose, 1973, oil, 60 x 50. Courtesy Tibor
de Nagy Gallery, New York.
MARILYN MARKOWITZ: WESTERN CONTEMPORARY by Barbara Whipple. "I set down parts of the land that radiate color instead
of a whole scene," says this Colorado artist. Her innovative techniques create a unique vision of the Southwest.
THE WATERCOLOR PAGE: JASON WILLIAMSON. When Williamson looks over his work, it seems to fall into three general
phases--regular, rock, and swash--each consuming years of experimenting. What are these techniques?.
PAINTING IN GLASS: BARNEY ZEITZ by Marlene Schiller. For those who generally associate stained glass with churches, Tiffany
styles, or expansive abstract architectural works, this article may come as quite a surprise. Zeitz offers a new approach to
this traditional medium.
DORIS STEIDER CHOSE EGG TEMPERA by Mary Carroll Nelson. This Albuquerque artist models her forms in egg tempera with
repeated layers of crosshatch. But it is her daring use of airbrush that creates the veils of color that make her method
distinctive. She shares her procedure with us.
LEATRICE ROSE: LOOKING AT INTERIORS by Diane Cochrane and Peter Homitzky. Here the interior still life is treated with a
formality that belies this artist's early training with Hans Hofmann.
DEL FILARDI: SCULPTURE TAKES FLIGHT by Ellen Zeifer. Filardi began working with metal in 1969, when she started creating
whimsical birds with scissors for beaks. Today her metal sculptures range to ten feet high, and she works with machines'she
discovered at the Internatinal Machine Tool Show.
