Item description

A Somewhat Unusual Journey : Victoria Station to Taganrog : A War Office Mission to Russia 1919 by Major H.S. Sayer Taken from his father's diaries by the authors son, this account of a mission to South Russia in late summer 1919 to assess and help organize the development of the Russian Tank Corps was written by someone who had served throughout almost the whole war, latterly in the Tank Corps, from its inception. He experienced the war very much at first hand, as did many of those, military and civilian, mentioned in this book. It describes a time and situation that few of us now can properly imagine. "The War to End all Wars" had ended barely 10 months before. Not only would the memories still be vivid, but remnants of the war were still unresolved, such as the subject of this book - the war in Russia. These experiences had a deep effect on Major Sayers: he wrote 22 pages in his A5 notebook to describe just one day, Sept. 7th 1919. What is more, the events described here still affect us today. If the White Russians had won .... Even then the Ukrainians were seeking independence from Russia. Item Condition: Brand new. Also includes the CD which often doesn't come with the book. Dimensions are approx: 9.5" x 8.25" x 0.25" This book will ship in a box with bubble wrap. Photos are of the actual book that will be shipped.
