Aegopodium pod. 'Variegatum'
Snow on the Mountain, Bishop's Weed,
Gout Weed, Ground Elder
Description:
beautiful varigated perennial groundcover multiplies nicely and will grow in sun or shade. Does nicely under trees and in bald spots where other plants don't like to grow. vigorous ground cover does well on banks or hard to maintain places. It is an aggressive grower best used by itself to underplant larger woody trees and shrubs. At the end of a hot, dry summer, just run the lawn mower over it and water deeply a few times to encourage fresh, new growth. Scatter the seed lightly on the top of the soil and then lightly scratch over some dirt to cover the seed . Water the seeds to get them moist,(don't water if the soil feels wet) This plant prefers cool weather and grows more quickly in cooler soil temperatures ,Gout weed seeds require cold stratification to germinate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratification_%28botany%29

Description: An attractive groundcover for the shade, 'Variegatum' is a light green and white variegated version of Bishop's Weed. Though it produces 14 inch tall umbels of tiny, creamy-white flowers in early summer, it is usually grown for its pretty foliage. If you are looking to rapidly fill in a space beneath a tree, on a slope, or any place that nothing else will grow, this is the perfect plant for you. It can be invasive, but if it's planted in the right spot, it is beautiful. Try growing it near a shady path in a large tub where its growth can be contained. Aegopodium podagraria bishop's goutweed; ground elder; herb gerard; ashweed; groundash :ground-elder (Aegopodium podagraria) is a perennial plant in the carrot family (Apiaceae) that grows in shady places. Its name is also sometimes spelled "ground elder", though this format invites confusion with elder (Sambucus), a very distantly related genus with visually similar leaves and flowers. Ground-elder is also known as herb gerard, bishop's weed, goutweed, and snow-in-the-mountain. It is the type species of the genus Aegopodium.
Uses as food and medicine
The tender leaves have been used as a spring leaf vegetable, much as spinach was used. It has also been used to treat gout and arthritis. The plant is said to have been introduced into England by the Romans as a food plant and into Northern Europe by monks. It is also eaten by Chinese and Tibetan monks.
It is best picked from when it appears (as early as February to just before it flowers (May to June). If it is picked after this point it takes on an unusual taste and has a laxative effect. However it can be stopped from flowering by pinching out the flowers, ensuring that the plant remains edible if used more sparingly as a pot herb.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegopodium_podagraria
