Item description

Borage seeds are grown as both an indoor culinary herb and an open-pollinated garden herb. Non-GMO Borage seeds produce some of the most fragrant and delicious edible culinary flowers loaded the Omega-6 fatty acid GLA. With a cucumber-like taste, Borage herb flowers make an easy summer treat for teas, salads, and dried herbal blends. Sowing When sowing seeds, place 3 per foot and a quarter to a halk inch into soil and lightly cover. Space the plants 24" apart to encourage growth and make sure that they do not grow on top of one another.Sow seeds in early spring, just as the soil has begun to warm up. Borage performs best in soil that is 50 degrees F and above, particularly in its earliest stages of growth. Germination should occur after 7-14 days. Growing Keep the soil fairly moist and weeds under control. Since too much soil contact can cause the drooping leaves to rot, a layer of mulch may be helpful. If the plant grows tall and begins to fall over, staking or a trellis may be necessary. Remove wilted blossoms to encourage new flowers. Harvesting About 6-8 weeks after planting when the plant has been well established, harvesting of the leaves can begin. Small, tender leaves are preferred for culinary use because the older leaves are covered with prickly hairs. Harvest the leaves or flowers in the morning after the dew has dried, choosing flowers that are just beginning to open. Though the leaves and flowers keep for several days in the refrigerator, they tend to lose their flavor when frozen.
