The most prefered species of japanese Pine. The best bonsai are made of these. This needles conifer tree is very robust and can take any bonsai training technique very well. It's growth rate is moderate. A must have in any bonsai collection.Japanese Black Pine is a rather distinctive and picturesque tree because of its irregular shape.
They are also very popular as landscape specimens, most likely due to their low maintenance and tolerance to extreme conditions.
They make an excellent evergreen for coastal regions because if its tolerance of high winds and salt spray. They are also very tolerant of urban conditions. Native to northeastern China, Korea and Japan, they are quite hardy and can easily be grown in zones 5-10. Generally these grow to about 8'-10'. They are surprisingly easy to grow from seed.
