Action How does Prospan syrup work? Prospan contains a dry extract from ivy leaves. The main active ingredients of the dry extract from ivy leaves are triterpene saponins with glycosidic character (?-hederin, hederagenin, and hederacoside C). Prospan syrup is used as an expectorant in productive coughs (so-called wet cough). The preparation has expectorant action (liquefies bronchial secretion), antispasmodic action (relaxes smooth muscles of the bronchi), and cough-soothing properties. Thanks to these properties, the accumulated bronchial mucus in the respiratory passages is liquefied, making it easier to expectorate. Indications When to take Prospan syrup? Prospan is a herbal remedy containing an extract from ivy leaves used as an expectorant in productive coughs (wet cough). Contraindications When not to take Prospan syrup: If there is hypersensitivity to the active substance or to other plants from the Araliaceae family (ivy family) or to any excipient. Not to be used in children under 2 years of age due to the risk of exacerbating respiratory symptoms. Warnings and precautions Before starting to use Prospan, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
