Item description

Description Name: Prospan International name: Hederae helicis folii extractum siccum Dose: 35 mg / 5 ml Form: syrup Packaging size: 100 ml Action/properties: Expectorant Antispasmodic Cough soothing Prospan, 0.035 g/5ml, 100 ml is a medicine containing a dry extract from ivy leaves. Action How does Prospan syrup work? Prospan contains a dry extract from ivy leaves. The main active ingredients of the dry extract from ivy leaves are triterpene saponins with glycosidic character (?-hederin, hederagenin, and hederacoside C). Prospan syrup is used as an expectorant in productive coughs (so-called wet cough). The preparation has expectorant action (liquefies bronchial secretion), antispasmodic action (relaxes smooth muscles of the bronchi), and cough-soothing properties. Thanks to these properties, the accumulated bronchial mucus in the respiratory passages is liquefied, making it easier to expectorate. Indications When to take Prospan syrup? Prospan is a herbal remedy containing an extract from ivy leaves used as an expectorant in productive coughs (wet cough). Contraindications When not to take Prospan syrup: If there is hypersensitivity to the active substance or to other plants from the Araliaceae family (ivy family) or to any excipient. Not to be used in children under 2 years of age due to the risk of exacerbating respiratory symptoms. Warnings and precautions Before starting to use Prospan, consult a doctor or pharmacist. In case of persistent symptoms or the appearance of symptoms such as shortness of breath, fever, purulent or bloody sputum, consult a doctor immediately. Concomitant use of cough suppressants, such as codeine or dextromethorphan, is not recommended without consulting a doctor. Caution is advised in patients with gastric mucosal inflammation or gastric ulcer. In rare cases, the drug may irritate the mucous membranes. Information for diabetics: the drug does not contain sugar and can be used by people with diabetes. Use in children Persistent or recurrent cough in children between 2 and 4 years of age requires a medical diagnosis before starting treatment. Taking other medicines Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all currently or recently taken medications by the patient, as well as about medications the patient plans to take, including over-the-counter medications. The drug can be administered in combination with other medications used during therapy, such as antibiotics. The drug may enhance the irritant effect on the gastric mucosa due to the content of saponins. Pregnancy Is using Prospan syrup during pregnancy safe? If the patient is pregnant or breastfeeding, suspects she may be pregnant, or plans to have a child, she should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using any medication. Studies on the safety of using the drug in pregnant women and its impact on fetal development have not been conducted. Therefore, the drug can be used by pregnant and breastfeeding women only when the doctor's benefit assessment outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Dosage This medicine should always be used exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as directed by a doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, consult a doctor or pharmacist. Shake the syrup before use! Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age: take 5 ml of syrup three times a day (equivalent to 105 mg of dry ivy leaf extract per day). Children aged 6 to 11 years: take 5 ml of syrup twice a day (equivalent to 70 mg of dry ivy leaf extract per day). Children aged 2 to 5 years: administer an average of 2.5 ml of syrup twice a day (equivalent to 35 mg of dry ivy leaf extract per day). Do not use in children under 2 years of age. Administering syrup to children under 5 years of age should be discussed with a doctor. An appropriate measuring cup is used to measure the medicine. Take the medicine in the morning, (at noon), and in the evening. The duration of treatment depends on the type of symptoms and their severity. How long can Prospan syrup be used? Treatment with the drug should last a minimum of 7 days, even in mild inflammatory conditions of the respiratory tract. If symptoms persist for more than a week despite using the medicinal product, consult a doctor or pharmacist. If you feel that the effect of the drug is too strong or too weak, consult a doctor or pharmacist. Taking a higher than recommended dose of the medicine (more than three times the daily dose) Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur due to the presence of sorbitol in the medicine. In this case, consult a doctor. Missed dose Do not use a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Discontinuation of Prospan syrup In case of any further doubts related to the use of this medicine, consult a doctor or pharmacist.
