Item description

Texas sage plants are easy-care, compact, drought-resistant and attractive bushes. The foliage of the bushes includes silver-gray oval leaves that are soft to the touch. During summer and fall, tubular flowers in hues of pink, blue and purple bloom and provide a dramatic contrast to the plant’s shimmery leaves. Prune Texas sage in early spring if you want to maintain a rounded shape and reduce dense foliage. Pruning also helps older plants that become straggly. Texas sage bushes regenerate at a fast rate. The plant is semideciduous and loses some foliage during the colder months. This is an excellent plant for those areas so dusty and dry nothing wants to grow there. The silver foliage - not to mention the pretty flowers - makes it stand out in a landscape of green-green-green. Choose a well-drained area or this plant won't survive. Plant it a little on the high side, mounding dirt up to it, to make sure there's good drainage even during our rainy season. Leucophyllums can be used in a wide range of landscape situations, included focal points, visual and wind screening, accents, and wildlife habitat. With the onset of summer monsoons, leucophyllum explodes in a burst of color, giving it the nickname barometer plant. They can survive on little to no supplemental watering except during periods of extreme drought, and can die if over watered. Texas Sage features showy clusters of hot pink flowers at the ends of the branches in mid summer. It has attractive grayish green-variegated silver foliage. The fuzzy oval leaves are highly ornamental and remain silver throughout the winter. The fruit is not ornamentally significant. The smooth gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.
