Item description

Three Panel African Art Display of Greeting Cards by Rwanda Genocide Survivor The story of this display is sad but hopeful. A friend from Rwanda who was visiting the US brought some greeting cards that his sister was making, as a sort of therapy for the trauma she experienced during the genocide that had occurred there, in which she lost her husband and children, and she also had been personally attacked. She was in a terrible mental state, but the artwork she created - cutting out designs from a natural grass-type paper, making greeting cards and selling them to support herself - was a positive attempt to move forward the best she could. The themes of her designs are Christmas and of everyday life in an African village. When my friend showed me the cards, I bought most of them. I used some as Christmas cards and then found this triptych wood photo display which was perfect for the rest of the cards. I cut out the shapes seen around the frames from grass paper to complete the look. Size: 20 x 16.75 x .5 inches Condition: A few small signs of wear; pictures are protected under glass; this piece can stand alone on a shelf or hang on the wall (two hangers on the back) I have more decorative collectibles. Please see my other listings.
