Item description

Wow~! In this listing we're featuring a 1938 Program Book for the Performance for the King Queen of England, His Majesty King George VI and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Here were the greatest performers of their time listed in order of their performing; The Coliseum Orchestra, The 24 John Tiller Girls, Vic and Joe Crastonian (singers), The Two Leslies (entertainers), Murray Mooney (comedians), Evelyn Laye (singer), Richard Hearne (actor), Jack Payne with his Band, The Three Aberdonians (Conversational Acrobats) and several more. Please look one or more up, you'll be amazed. Other notes regarding this program book; It's condition is remarkable with a bit of staining on the outside covers and with some corner bending and wear. Inside there are no tears and all pages are present and intact however, one middle page has come loose from the booklet. Finally, absolutely no expense was held back in creating this program, it was of the highest quality. It has tissue paper as the first and last page so as to protect the content within. There's even a Royal insignia stamped impression on the front. In addition and worth noting, there are full page black and white advertisements for the most expensive things in the world such as a Rolls Royce. The advertisers certainly knew the most wealthy people would be in attendance. Other notable information; No one could have known it at the time, but the 1938 Royal Variety Performance – held at the Coliseum for the first time in ten years – was to be the last until after the War, in 1945. The finale to the show – involving around 250 artistes – was the biggest ever for a Royal Variety Show and seemed an appropriate if unintentionally grand way to signal the grim and desperate years ahead. Many of the performers were to provide vital work over the next years in boosting the morale of our troops all around the world.
