Item description
1935A - $1.00 DOLLAR - YELLOW SEAL - 1942-
EMERGENCY- WW2- NORTH AFRICA
It?s 1942, the height of WW2- the North African theater of WW2, the U.S.A wanted to help the BRITISH.
You have General George Patton (aka- Old Blood and Guts) pitted against the German Nazi General Erwin Rommel (aka- the Desert Fox). Two formidable opponents.
THE AMERICAN- OPERATION TORCH- began in late 1942/43. The dollar was accepted globally . The US high command and Congress with the department of Treasury decided to use SILVER CERTIFICATES WITH A SPECIAL EMERGENCY - YELLOW vs blue seal specifically for North African soldiers.
In case the currency fell into German hands the US could demonetize it to be worthless so NAZIs could not cash in and demand silver, since at that time Silver Certificates could - on demand be redeemed for silver by the bearer.
The Americans prevailed and the currency never had to be put into ?EMERGENCY - Non Value? status.
This yellow seal $1.00 dollar silver certificate Is definitely circulated and shows wear and folds. Most of these were folded in places and stuffed in the soldiers gear.
The bill is intact and has no tears or blood. Sides and corners intact. Normally wear like this detracts from the note?s numismatic value, however, this veteran at almost 90 has character and history.
To the history buff a pristine example would be considered AWOL and having seen no field campaigns or carried by a soldier. All old historic documents bear scars, this bill as a veteran has appeal across many platforms.
Great for Numismatics, history, military - Like other veterans, etc. This is a dying breed. Own a piece of history!
Today the value of a $1 from 1942 in today's dollars would be equivalent to $18.75. The Series 1935 design was used until 1945, so no contradiction with soldier issue date appx. 1942.
(By the way - The seller's father was a Captain in World War 2.)
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Bonus! Includes a sturdy plastic display to preserve for the next generation of collectors.
