Item description

$10 YELLOW SEAL- WW2- 1934A- EMERGENCY- NORTH AFRICA -SILVER CERTIFICATE - LOW SERIAL # . CIRC. This rare $10 YELLOW SEAL - Silver Certificate was issued only to Servicemen during the World War 2 - North African Campaign in 1942 by act of Congress and the Department of the Treasury. The US currency is honored world wide. In the North African Battle of WW2, you had the Americans led by General George Patton vs the Nazi German Desert Fox - General Erwin Rommel. Since silver certificates are payable on demand to the bearer, the value yellow seal could be demonetized by Congress and not fall into German hands. We were not defeated in North Africa. Hence this EMERGENCY contingency use of the yellow seal, did not come into play. The seller is familiar with currency evaluation. Normally a circulated bill with some light folds and a minor ink smudge rates a lesser value, although it is intact and the reserve is still a bold green. But as a dealer in antiquities and student of history, the seller realizes that there is a story attached to these signs of wear. No famous document is in pristine condition. This note has character. It?s battle tested but still in good condition. A pristine crisp example (no doubt) was AWOL and saw no action. Having survived 90 years and more to the right collector, student of history, WW2 buff, it may be only $10 but it is priceless. It has more value due to the BA and 00 low serial number. Early 1942. It comes in a lucite display holder to preserve for another 90 years. All corners intact as are edges. PLEASE NOTE: $10 in 1942 is about $187 today making this even less common. The 1935 series style was used until 1945. Hence no contradiction in these being issued only to SERVICEMAN in 1942, hence fewer printed 1. North African campaign 2. Serviceman only 3. Low serial # Included Bonus: Lucite display/protective holder Please examine photos fully for additional condition information.
