Item description

This is a vintage, circa 1910 edition of "Polly: A New Fashioned Girl" by Mrs. L.T. Meade published by A.L. Burt Co, Publishers, New York. This antique novel is personalized on the inside cover, "Annie Ford Turpin - Xmas 1912". There is no copyright page but from what I've researched, editions were published in 1889 and 1910. I infer from the date of the gift, it is most likely the 1910 edition. I have also found other volumes on line but none with the same cover so it must have some level or rarity. The antique novel for young women was found in in an old Southern plantation, likely never having left the house. The Turpin family of Boydton, VA included Edna Turpin, a novelist of the day that was most likely a close relative of young Annie. L.T. Meade was a popular Irish author of stories for girls. The vintage classic is in good shape for a 100 year old book, with pages, cover and spine clean and tight. There is a stain fortunately on the front cover. Pages have yellowed with age. It is a lovely vintage edition of a Victorian classic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._T._Meade
