Item description

10 Seeds Golden Dewdrop Duranta Erecta Duranta erecta, commonly called golden dewdrop, pigeon berry or sky flower, is native to the American tropics from Mexico to Brazil and in the West Indies. It is a spreading, sometimes weeping, evergreen shrub or small tree that grows to 15-18’ tall in its native habitat. Features drooping axillary and terminal racemes of light blue to violet flowers which bloom summer to fall. Flowers give way in fall to drooping clusters of yellow-orange drupes (golden dewberries as it were). It has oval rounded light green leaves (to 2” long). Winter hardy to USDA Zones 10-11 where plants are grown in moist, fertile, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates light shade, but best flowering is in full sun. Tolerates wide range of soils. Grow as an annual shrub, in containers or as a houseplant in temperate regions. It is used as a hedge, border plant, lawn specimen or train as small tree in warm climates. Growing Instructions 1. Soak the seed in water for several hours. 2. The seeds like moist, well-drained soil. Prepare a mixture of half potting soil and half sand, perlite or vermiculite. Put the soil in a pot. Water the mixture so that it is moist but not wet. 3. Put the seeds on the soil. 4. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. 5. Water the seeds. 6. Place the pots in an area with warm temperatures in full sun or part shade. The seeds take about 1 month to germinate. 7. When the seedlings are a few inches tall, they can be transplanted.
