Vintage original script from the popular 1970's sitcom television series, WHEN THINGS WERE ROTTEN, created by Mel Brooks, John Boni, and Norman Stiles. It is from Season 1, Episode 8, which was entitled There Goes the Neighborhood, in which the Four Guys from Gloucester, master woodsmen, have been hired by the Sheriff (Henry Polic II) to chop down Sherwood Forest, so it can be replaced by a new housing development, Sherwood Meadows. Robin (Dick Gautier) and his men have to convince the Guys to quit the job. The cast includes Dick Van Patten, Bernie Kopell, Richard Dimitri, Misty Rowe, David Sabin, Paul Williams, Bo Kaprall, Michael McManus, Rod Gist, and Pat Proft. Written by Tony Geiss and Tom Meehan, this script is dated September 10, 1975. It consists of 35 pages on white stock that were 3-hole punched and is currently bound with a black metal clip at the top left (there are no outer covers or brads present). It is complete in very fine+ condition without any missing pages, tears, stains, or other flaws, nor are there any handwritten notations present within. This script must be a Draft, as the last page states "TAG (TO COME)" (a TAG is a short scene to close the episode, so it was not ready at the time this script was printed). When Things Were Rotten is an American sitcom television series created in 1975 by Mel Brooks and aired for half a season by ABC. A parody of the Robin Hood legend, the series starred Dick Gautier (who earlier had played Hymie the Robot in Brooks' Get Smart series) as the handsome and heroic Robin Hood. The remaining series regulars included Dick Van Patten as pious but feisty Friar Tuck, Bernie Kopell (another Get Smart veteran) as smooth-talking sentimental jokester Alan-a-Dale, Misty Rowe as deceptively ditzy-looking blond Maid Marian, and David Sabin as the mighty Little John, with Ron Rifkin as childishly petty tyrant Prince John and Henry Polic II as Hubert, the wicked, black-clad Sheriff of Nottingham. Richard Dimitri played a dual role as identical twin brothers: Bertram, the Sheriff's snooty and sniveling right-hand man, and Renaldo, stereotypical Latino member of the Merry Men who had been stolen as a baby by gypsies. Brooks again spoofed the Robin Hood legend in his 1993 film, Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
