Item description
Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy on-set photograph taking during the production of the 1950's historical drama/romance, THE BLACK SHIELD OF FALWORTH, released in 1954 by Universal-International and directed by Rudolph Maté. Peasant Myles Falworth (Tony Curtis) is trained for knighthood and is
groomed by various nobles to defeat the evil Earl of Alban (David Farrar), who is plotting to
usurp King Henry IV's (Ian Keith) throne.
The image features an interior on-set shot during a break in filming as director Rudolph Maté, his script on his lap, talks with cast members Craig Hill (Francis Gascoyne), Barbara Rush (Meg), star Tony Curtis (Myles Falworth), and Janet Leigh (Lady Anne) while either assistant director Tom Shaw or perhaps a technical adviser (holding his own script) looks at the director. This vintage original on-set photograph is in good- condition only with an area of creasing in the top left corner of the background area; small creases and signs of wear in the borders; and a 2 in. diagonal crease on the bottom border near the right corner.
This was Universal-International's first feature in
CinemaScope. While it was released in the widescreen format, it was not filmed
in the new anamorphic process, but in standard 1:37 Academy ratio and then
matted to 1:2.35 CinemaScope.
