Item description
Vintage original revised script from the classic 1960's/1970's medical-themed television drama, MARCUS WELBY, M.D. It is from Season 1, Episode 14, which was entitled Diagnosis: Fear, in which a basketball player seeks out a faith healer for his injured knee instead of having the surgery Dr. Welby recommends. The cast includes Robert Young, James Brolin, Elena Verdugo, Ruth Roman, John Findlater, Tom Drake, Vinton Hayworth, and Vaughan Taylor.
Written by Margaret Armen, this revised script features the episode's original title of Dr. Margaret. We believe that this particular script belonged to cast member TOM DRAKE, who portrayed "Homer Chatfield" in this episode, as his name is handwritten in pencil on the bottom of the SETS page (and this is most likely his own signature as well). All of the dialogue for "Mr. Chatfield" has been circled in pencil by, presumably, Tom Drake, with various words underlined as well as changes to various words. It consists of 4 acts in 62 pages on white stock with revisions dated 10/6/69 (pink), 10/7/69 (blue), 10/8/69 (canary), and 10/14/69 (green), all of which were 3-hole punched and bound with two brass brads without any cover. It is incomplete, as it is missing the title page, page 7-10, 12-13, and 20. However, there are two different revisions of page 23 (blue, green). Of additional interest is that the lines of dialogue for Marcus Welby (portrayed by Robert Young) on pages 61 and 62 have his character's name circled in red pencil. This vintage original Revised script is in overall fine- condition with signs of wear and along the side edges of the first page (SETS); a light vertical crease down pages 49-62 that gives progressively more pronounced; and heavier signs of wear on the last three pages.
Tom Drake (born Alfred Sinclair Alderdice, August 5, 1918 – August 11, 1982) was an American actor. Drake made films starting in 1940 and continuing until the mid-1970’s, and also made TV acting appearances.
Drake's most memorable role during the WWII was the character John Truett in the musical, Meet Me in St. Louis. Truett was the boy next door, who served as the love interest for the character Esther Smith (played by Judy Garland). Following the War, Drake appeared in over 30 films and several television series. He broke out of typecasting in 1959, when playing gang leader Abe McQuown in the Western film, Warlock.
