Item description

Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the 1930's newspaper-themed comedy/romance, LIBELED LADY, released in 1936 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by Jack Conway. When a socialite sues a big paper for libel, the editor responsible calls in the help of his ignored fiancée and a former employee to frame her and make the false story seem true. The image features a close interior publicity shot of Jean Harlow in the arms of Spencer Tracy. It is in near-fine condition with various-sized creases in the borders; a 4 in. thin vertical line down Harlow's shoulder which is to a scratch or scuff; and some small creases in the image area, primarily from handling over time. A former owner has written the film's name in the bottom border. Reportedly, while shooting the movie, the four stars had become close friends and William Powell even gave-up his old habit of hiding out in his dressing room between scenes so he could join in the fun with the rest of the cast. One of the biggest jokes was a running gag Spencer Tracy played on Myrna Loy, claiming that she had broken his heart with her recent marriage to producer Arthur Hornblow Jr. He even set-up an "I Hate Hornblow" table in the studio commissary, reserved for men who claimed to have been jilted by Loy.
