Item description

Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the classic 1960's mystery thriller/crime drama, HUSH...HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE, released in 1964 by 20th Century-Fox and directed by Robert Aldrich. Produced as his follow-up to the his smash hit, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Bette Davis again stars, this time as an aging, reclusive Southern belle who is plagued by a horrifying family secret and descends into madness after the arrival of a lost relative (Olivia de Haviland). The image is from the film's famous "hallucination dance" sequence and depicts Charlotte Hollis (Bette Davis) dancing with whom she thinks is her former beau, John Mayhew, as she looks up into his face and realizes that it is not him. The couples who have halted their dance mid-step in the background area all wearing the same generic type of mask. The border artwork in the lower left features a large shot of Davis screaming in fear with the image of a gun with a bloody bouquet of flowers. As indicated in the center of the bottom border, this is lobby card #7 from the set of 8 cards. It is unrestored in fine+ condition with one set of staple holes in the top left corner within the borders and multiple pinholes and/or staple holes in the top right corner, a few of which are inside the pink background. The making of this classic film was shown in great detail in the outstanding television miniseries Feud, co-starring Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford and Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis. Crawford was originally cast as Davis' evil cousin, Miriam, but was replaced by Olivia de Havilland.
