Item description
[American
Indian] [Virginiana] Sams, Conway Whittle, THE CONQUEST OF VIRGINIA THE FOREST
PRIMEVAL. New York: G.P. Putnam?s Sons, 1916. 1st ed. blue cloth
hardcover w/gilt titling to spine and front board, 8vo (9.25x5.75?), very
good/n.a., 432 pp. + publisher?s advs.
Wear to
the ubiquitous head and tail of spine as well as the corners, overall light
fading to cloth, ex-lib pastedown of Mark Skinner Library in Manchester, VT
established in 1897, card pocket at rear lacking borrower card, embossed
library stamp on title page. Fold out map is present.
An
escapee from the famous library began by American politician Mark Skinner, who
lost his only son at the Civil War battle of Petersburg. Now known as the
Manchester Community Library in a new facility; a restaurant known as the
?Silver Fork? resides in the original Skinner building.
The
subject manner is exemplary dealing extensively with the conquest and exploits
of the original residents of Virginia. Quite the distinctive and informative
book indeed.
