About Sam Auxier Jr: Sam Auxier Jr. is a drag racing legend who began racing in 1963, building his own cars and engines, earning numerous hall of fame awards along the way. His Mustang Fastback NHRA Ultra-Stocker "The Terror" became feared across the country. He later opened a speed shop that operated for several decades before returning to drag racing as an expert, host, presenter and consultant during its revival in the late '80s and early '90s. About Sam's 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback This car has a long and storied history wiith many twists and turns. For one, this car is one of the most documented and discussed drag car in history. A quick Google search reveals a number of sources where you can learn about it and have some fun at the same time. Growing up with Sam as my father, I've been witness to his quest to find this car and may or may not have not participated in taking weekend afternoon journies to find it or one of his many race cars that had been regrettably passed on before their time. I do remember peeking into garage windows on tippie toes on properties along old country roads, scared of getting caught. I can't remember exactly where we were, but likely somewhere between home and Western Maryland or just over the border in PA. Anyhow, here's a super duper quick history of this car.... Sam Auxier Jr's genius built this hotrod, which led him from track to track, terrorizing the field and winning every race along the way. Sam designed, engineered and built it's monster engine from the ground up and assembled one of the most feared and revered drag cars ever created. Incredibly, he only raced it for one year before selling it's shell to another drive. Even more incredibly, Sam actually found this car after severall decades - eventually locating it as it sat rotting away in a garage not too far from his Maryland home. I was not in tow that day, though I sort of wish I had been. After revealing himself, he made an offer to its then owner, eventually re-taking posession of car. Off to a slow start however, after round and round with several failed attempts at partnering locals to complete a restoration job, the project stalled. Eventually he found an unlikely investor who took the leap an made a commitment to fund and complete the project. Thinking about it right now, I have no idea how my Dad found this man, but God bless him! This man purchased the car from my Dad, then hired him as consultant on the restoration job to ensure that no detail was overlooked and not a single beat was missed. Several years later, the restored car was showecased at that year's SIMA show in Las Vegas to much fanfare! The owner who lived across the country from us graciously let Sam tour the country with the car, even delivering it to him in far flung places. But, all good things must come to an end, and this was no different. Eventually the day came when the investor was ready profit from the project. So last year the car made it to Scottsdale, AZ to be featured in the Barrett-Jackson auto auction to much buzz about it among the auction's wealthy attendees. Sam was sure to be there for the event. When it was time, he even made the monumental drive to the stage with the car when was next up on the auction block. And in a moment, she was sold!
