THE COVER: Mr. Plumpski, our middle-aged snow- bunny (novice skier), pictures himself involved in the fanciest sort of downhill derring-do, while Spoilsport the salesman, looking ahead a few feet, visualizes our hero at the termination of a well-executed eggbeater. The more subtle message of Alajalov's cover scene is that all enthusiasts of this sport-even ski salesmen-focus their daydreams on the nearest mountaintop. The truth is, members of the schuss-and-slalom set live in a world of their own. Tell one of them that skiing is a corny game, and he'll inform you that "corn" happens to be an excellent grade of skiing snow. Show us a skier, and we'll show you a person who can pack a suitcase as fast as you can say, "The weatherman predicts seven inches by morning."
