Lauren Cochran (Robin Groves), an agoraphobic writer of gothic novels (the title of one which gives the film its name), moves from New York to a remote, spooky Victorian mansion. It's the perfect place to give her inspiration and rid herself of writer's block. Originally a brothel in which a massacre took place, the house is now haunted by the ghosts of the victims and Groves becomes a pawn in their plans to revenge themselves upon their murderers. The movie also features Academy Award winner Gloria Grahame -- as the ghost of the brothel madam.
