Item description
GOLDEN TALES OF ANATOLE FRANCE by Anatole France Illustrated by L. A. Patterson Dodd, Mead Co., 1st Illustrated Edition, 1927 Condition: About Very Good Eighteen tales, often with elements of fantasy, are set in France, Greece and other ancient lands. They include "The Seven Wives of Bluebeard", "Our Lady's Juggler", "Crainquebille" and "The Miracle of the Great St. Nicholas". L. A. Patterson has provided 14 b w art deco-style illustrated plates, plus illustrated end papers and many other smaller interior illustrations. 352 pages (some of which are unseparated, since the printer only rough-cut the side page edges). The spine is sunned, but the gilt on the front cover printing, illustration and border are still bright. Cover corners, edges and spine ends show some wear. Though the binding isn't very tight, all pages are securely bound. Toning is generally confined to the top, bottom and inside margins. This first illustrated edition has a deluxe appearance.
