After attending Pasadena city College, he received a scholarship to the Chouinard Art Institute where he majored in design and painting. This was the same art school that during the same era produced artists like Patrick Nagel, Chuck Jones, Roy Williams and Corita Kent., Later, Mr. Montgomery developed a strong interest in printmaking and graphic design.
