Item description
Antique Cabinet Card Photograph. You rarely see an old cabinet photo of a girl in cap and gown. This is the first time I've seen one. Identified in period handwriting that reads "Saidie Marion Chadbourne," and dated May, 1897. Photo by Purdy studio of Boston, Massachusetts. Measures approximately 5.25 x 7.5 including mount. Condition: This is an original photograph, not a copy or reproduction. It has a few small spots hear her head, and an upper right corner crease of the mount. Comments: An on-line search reveals her name is also spelled "Sadie" in some references. She was included among a list of "Special Students" in the Boston University Catalogue dated 1894 in the College of Liberal Arts. The book also indicated she was from Holbrook, Massachusetts. Another reference states her married name was Sawyer.
