Item description
FIVE YEARS OF MY LIFE: 1894 - 1899
by Alfred Dreyfus
McClure, Phillips Co., First U.S.Edition, 1901
Condition: Very Good
In this memoir,, Alfred Dreyfus, a French artillery officer of Jewish descent, writes of the trial at which he was falsely accused of selling military secrets to Germany; of his years at Devil's Island, closing briefly with his unsuccessful second trial. (It wasn't until five years after the book was published that he was fully exonerated and then went on to distinguish heself as a major in World War I.) This is the book which first told the full inside story of the "Dreyfus Affair". 310 pages, with four drawn maps and a facsimile. Darkened spine (but little faded); light cover corner and spine end wear; somewhat tanned pages. Binding is secure throughout, front cover is bright with gilt lettering and design.
