Item description
Instructions:
1. Prepare Soil: Use well-draining, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Snapdragons prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.2-7.0). Loosen the soil to a depth of 8-10 inches.
2. Start Indoors: Start snapdragon seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost date. Use seed trays or small pots filled with seed-starting mix.
3. Plant Seeds: Sprinkle the tiny snapdragon seeds on the surface of the soil. Lightly press them into the soil without covering, as snapdragon seeds need light to germinate. Mist the soil gently to moisten it.
4. Provide Light: Place seed trays in a bright location or under grow lights. Snapdragons need plenty of light to germinate and grow strong.
5. Provide Cool Temperatures: Snapdragons prefer cooler temperatures for germination, around 60-70F (16-21C).
6. Maintain Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Cover the seed trays with a clear plastic cover to retain moisture until seeds germinate.
7. Transplant: Once seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves and the danger of frost has passed, transplant them into the garden or larger pots. Space plants 6-12 inches apart, depending on the variety.
8. Provide Sunlight: Snapdragons thrive in full sun to partial shade. Choose a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
9. Watering: Water snapdragons regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist. Avoid overhead watering to prevent fungal diseases.
10. Fertilize: Apply a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season. Follow package instructions for dosage.
11. Pinch Back: Pinch back the growing tips of young plants to encourage bushier growth and more blooms.
12. Deadhead: Remove spent flowers (deadheading) to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.
