Item description
Hotel Virginia Long Beach California Menu Holiday Card Vintage
About the hotel: The Hotel Virginia, located in Long Beach, California, holds a storied history that spans over a century. Constructed in the early 1900s, it was originally designed as a luxury destination, catering to affluent travelers and locals alike. The Virginia Hotel, on the south side of Ocean Boulevard at Magnolia, opened on April 1, 1908, and was the social center of the area for many years. Originally named the Bixby Hotel, it was renamed the Virginia Hotel after a construction accident in 1906 resulted in fatalities. The hotel did not survive the stock market crash of 1929 and closed on October 10, 1932. The building was demolished after the March 10, 1933 earthquake. Over the years, the hotel witnessed the evolving landscape of Long Beach, from its heyday in the 1920s to its decline during the Great Depression. The hotel was in operation from 1908 until 1932.
