Think of this as one of the "transition" issues for RAMPARTS: it is no longer simply the liberal Catholic current events literary journal of its youth, but not yet quite ready to break free into its second phase of in-your-face, no-holds-barred, kick-'em-when-they're-down radical progressivism.
