The Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival dates back 600 years to 1340 to Queen's College in Oxford, England. Legend has it that a medieval scholar, lost in study while walking in the forest, was attacked by a boar. He slew the beast with the only weapon at hand, a thick, metal-studded philosophy book, and bore the beast's head back to the college for a triumphal procession. The pageant came to symbolize the light of the Christ child coming into the world.
