Item description
Tight, flat, square book in paper covered boards with bumped and worn tips and edges. Lightly scuffed boards. Text block lightly toned with light foxing. It covers Juan Ponce de Leon, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Rene Cavelier LaSalle to name but three. Read more about : South Virginia, Alvarado, Sebastian Cabot, Cape Fear, Pascua Florida, Powhatan, Champlain, Mont- Real, and Tlaxcalans. Text assisted by detailed b/w line drawings.
First and only edition listed in WorldCat or found online. One of two similar books published by Whitman in 1924. Gleason was the go-to illustrator for Whitman at the time. Whitman parleyed their expertise in children's books into buying Little Golden Books from Simon and Schuster in the mid 1950's.
