Torrent of Graces? 3 sizes based on a Vintage Holy Card ? Catholic Art Print ? Archival Quality
This pretty French image was a pocket devotional. As a holy card, the faithful could carry it with them and be cheered by the reminder that all the beautiful things in life come from God. More specifically, the graces we receive come from the bleeding heart of Jesus, water and blood flowing from his side. That brings us all our blessings, represented here by pretty flowers flowing into a beautiful world. The world could have been a gray place, full of gruel and drabness. True, it is a world marred by sin, but we have been given so much to appreciate, so much that personally we believe that the beauty of this world is a sign to us of our Creator and his love. Why else would he give us so much if he didn't love us? He lavishes all of us with gifts. This holy card was a reminder of that. This card was printed in the 19th Century, at a time of a rising devotion to the Sacred Heart. Generally the Sacred Heart means the interior life of Jesus, of his thoughts, will, feelings and emotions. In art it is shown as his physical heart. The printer was L. Turgis, or Louis Auguste Turgis, one of the first and finest of the French holy card makers. He was the printer and publisher (imp.-edit.) and had a huge influence on printing in Europe and America. We carry several of our favorites from his line. The inscription translates into English as, "The Heart of Jesus gives us / the Torrent of Graces." About 1855. (source: winckelmanngallery.com)** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt. - Acid-free fine art paper. - Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.- Cardboard backer- Above story of the art- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag. Thanks for your interest!Sue John"In order to communicate the message entrusted to her by Christ, the Church needs art." ~ St. Pope John Paul IIOriginal image is out-of-copyright. Descriptive text and image alterations (hence the whole new image) by Sue Kouma Johnson - Classic Catholic Art.
