WEDGWOOD Teal Green Jasperware Sacrifice Bowl This Wedgwood Sacrifice Bowl (sometimes called “Sacrificial Bowl”) was produced in teal green jasperware with white/cream jasper applied decoration, with the classical figures that so greatly contribute to Wedgwood’s popularity. There are three groups of figures around the outside of the bowl, separated into groups by trees. One of the figures on this bowl depicts a maiden pouring wine or olive oil onto a fire as an offering (sacrifice) to the gods, with other maidens approaching bearing flowers and fruit. All the applied design elements are created in separate molds, then applied by hand to the bowl before the clay has had a chance to dry. This is a laborious and time-consuming task, now almost completely discontinued by Wedgwood. Approximately 8 inches in diameter and approximately 3.75 inches high. Appropriately marked on the bottom, including the impressed trademark WEDGWOOD, MADE IN ENGLAND. There is a date code “85” for 1985; this color TEAL was only in production 1984-1986, a very short time. A fairly rare and collectable color in its own right, and this is a nice large example.
