Item description
Holmes Edwards TEASPOON
Silver Fashion -pre 1956*
Backstamp:" HOLMES EDWARDS INLAID" "IS" "DEEPSILVER"
Excellent Used Condition-no defects-minimal use and wear
1.1 oz 33 gr
6.25" long
*The
term "INLAID" was used on backstamps prior to 1956 when it was dropped
in favor of "HOLMES EDWARDS DEEPSILVER". Shortly thereafter in
1960 that term was again changed to read, "INTERNATIONAL DEEPSILVER".
The qualitative leap in
Holmes Edwards production of quality silverwear occurred with the
acquisition of the patents and the employment of the inventor, William
A.Warner. His technique was to inlay blocks of sterling silver (hence the term "INLAID") at
the
wear points on the backs of the utensils prior to silver plating them
which won the Gold Medal at the Columbian Exposition and subsequently
moved Edwards Holmes into a prominent position in the industry. The company was later acquired by International Silver
Company (IS).
Extra pieces shipped at no extra cost to buyer.
