Item description
Bastet was originally a fierce warrior goddess of the sun lioness worshiped throughout most of ancient Egyptian history, but later she was changed to the cat goddess familiar today, becoming Bastet. Then she was depicted as the daughter of Atum-Ra, who had a son, the lion-god Mahes.
As the protector of Lower Egypt, she was seen as the defender of the king, and thus the sun god, Ra. Along with other deities such as Hathor, Sekhmet, and Isis, Bastet was associated with the Eye of Ra. She is portrayed as battling a vicious serpent named Apep, Ra's enemy. In addition to its connections to solar energy, it was sometimes called "Eye of the Moon."
Bastet, the goddess of pregnancy and childbirth, probably due to the fertility of the pet cat.
