Triple-bill of teen dramas. In 'Mean Girls' (2004), Lindsay Lohan stars as Cady Heron, a pretty 15-year-old who has spent most of her life in the wilds of Africa being home-schooled by her zoologist parents. Her upbringing has taught her a lot about survival in the wilderness and the subtleties of animal behaviour, but nothing she has learned can prepare her for the unspoken social etiquette of a mid-American high school, where jocks, cheerleaders, stoners and cool kids jostle for popularity, and a clique of rich and popular girls known as 'the Plastics' rule the school. This group of alpha females, led by 'professional life-ruiner' Regina George (Rachel McAdams), is initially contemptuous of Cady but then accepts her as a new member. Cady, who in the meantime has become friends with punky misfits Janis and Damian, starts to get close to the 'mean girls', initially out of curiosity - but it isn't long before she's enjoying the buzz of being one of the most popular girls in the school. However, when she inadvertently crosses the line by going on a date with one of Regina's ex-boyfriends, the gorgeous Aaron (Jonathan Bennett), the Plastics go on the warpath, and Cady must pay for her initiation into their mean Plastic world. In 'Save the Last Dance' (2000), would-be ballerina Sara (Julia Stiles) is forced to abandon her dancing plans when she leaves her smalltown home and moves to live with her estranged father in the dangerous South Side of Chicago. As a white girl in a predominantly black neighbourhood, Sara finds it a struggle to settle in, but when she meets black fellow-dancer Derek (Sean Patrick Thomas), she begins to feel much happier. The two set out together to realise their dreams, but as their relationship develops it brings forth major opposition from both their friends and their families, putting their future as a couple in jeopardy. Finally 'Clueless' (1995) is a modern day version of Jane Austen's 'Emma'. Cher (Alicia Silverstone) is a precocious teenager, acutely aware of her own superior social standing in relation to some of her classmates. She is just as sure of her position of authority at home as well, until her stepbrother arrives to disrupt the status quo. Her poise is somewhat disturbed at school, too, when a new classmate stirs an emotion in her she has never felt before: love! Please note this DVD is region 2 and will only work in the following regions Japan, Europe, South Africa, the Middle East (including Egypt) and Greenland, Unless you have a multi-regional DVD Player.
