On July 1967 when she was 17 Joni Eareckson dived into Chesapeake Bay and broke her neck since then she has been a quadriplegic combined to the life of a wheelchair and her first book Joni she told the story of her accident and her some subsequent struggle to accept her handicapped as a result of the first book Johnny received thousands of letters from readers who identified with her bouts of depression Despair and loneliness letters from hurting people from all over the world out of this came a sense of responsibility to respond to others and thus this book a step further Johnny with the assistance of a good friend and Mentor Steve Estes relates more of her life as a quadriplegic and struggles and lessons and her downfalls and victories it is an intensively personal story telling honestly how God has used her circumstances individuals and events to reveal more of himself to her it is a moving book clearly evidence thing a maturity of a young woman to whom God is God from her poignant I wish I had my hands day to the triumphant notes are sounded in the Final Chapter Heaven Joni Eareckson revealed the real person who has opened herself up to not only to God but to others this book is my attempt to answer in part many of the questions people have raise regarding my suffering sharing from my own life today as I look back I am convinced that the whole ordeal of my paralysis was inspired by God's love I wasn't the brunt of some cruel Divine joke God has reasons behind my suffering and learning some of them has made all the difference in the world
