Item description
Antique Khmer Style Baphuon Lakshmi Statue / Devi Consort of Vishnu - 43cm/17"
Measures (Height) 43cm/17"
Antique Khmer style Lakshmi, devi or Goddess statue in the pre-Angkor 11th century Baphuon style.
Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity (both material and spiritual), light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, generosity and courage. The embodiment of beauty, grace and charm. Also called Mahalakshmi, she is said to bring good luck, and is believed to protect her devotees from all kinds of misery and money-related sorrows.
Lakshmi stands on a rectangular lotus leaf adorned plinth.
The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.
She is clothed in a long pleated sampot with a lotus flower belt. The traditional Khmer Dhoti helps demonstrates the ecumenical nature of iconography in the Baphuon period.
Her hair is tied with a bead band into a rounded chignon. She is stood with her hands in the Dharmachakra or Teaching mudra and the Granting of Boons.
The azure patina and details of this piece are particularly appealing. This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add a unique touch to any room of your home or workplace.
One of the most recognizable of the Asian deities this representation of the consort of Vishnu is sure to enlighten your home with endlessly timeless style.
