Vintage embossed Old Mr. Boston Liquor bottle circa 1950s - man with top hat This is a vintage, screw top liquor bottle embossed "Old Mr. Boston - Federal Law Forbids Sale or Re-Use of this Bottle" on the front along with "R-174 56-40" embossed on the bottom. The image of a man wearing a top hat is centered. The federally mandated warning dates the bottle to between 1932 and 1964. The company promoted their brand by offering a selection of collectible, decorative designs indicating this particular bottle likely dates to the 1950s. My father, an avid bottle digger, found this bottle over 40 years ago in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia. It is in great shape, free of cracks or breaks. There is some discoloration from sediment and exposure over time. The bottle measures about 9.75" x 4" by 1.75". About Old Boston liquor:The Old Boston distillery was founded in 1933 the Roxbury, Massachusetts outside of Boston by Irwin "Benjamin and Hyman Berkowitz. Over time,the words "Old" and "Mr." were dropped from the name until it was known simply as "Boston." The distillery operated in the Boston area from the 1930s until the mid 1980s, when the parent company, Glenmore Distillers, closed its doors.
