(CA10-57) RARE African American LADY ivory + and 20 similar items

(Internal #CA10-57) Excellent side-view cameo of an African-American woman. New, molded from resin, this is a small cameo pin/pendant in IVORY color with BLACK background, mounted on vintage tortoise shell color Bakelite backing, pin/pendant is 1-1/2" diameter x 3/16" thick. Cameo itself is 1" long x 3/4" wide or 25 x 18 mm. Clasp pin/pendant glued horizontally on the back (see last photo for an example). (Synthetic, modern) African-American cameo with vintage tortoise shell color BAKELITE backing Bakelite, or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride, is an early plastic. It is a thermosetting phenol formaldehyde resin, formed from a condensation reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. It was developed by the Belgian-American chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, in 1907. One of the first plastics made from synthetic components, Bakelite was used for its electrical nonconductivity and heat-resistant properties in electrical insulators, radio and telephone casings and such diverse products as kitchenware, jewelry, pipe stems, children's toys, and firearms. The "retro" appeal of old Bakelite products has made them collectible. Bakelite was designated a National Historic Chemical Landmark on November 9, 1993, by the American Chemical Society in recognition of its significance as the world's first synthetic plastic. Superb detail down to the texture of her hair, and face! I know because I do half the work in creating the cameos. Comes with information card.
