Item description
THE SUBMARINER
by Edward Stephens
Garden City, New York: Doubleday Company, Inc., 1973.
First edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page and 1973 date printed to the title page.
Inscribed and SIGNED by the author and former Korean and World War II submarine officer Edward Stephens: "With all good wishes, Jean. Ed Stephens" to the half-title page.
The inscribee's name "Jean Miller" is printed to the upper edge of the half-title page, in the same blue ink as used for the inscription.
Stephens draws on his first-hand experiences and detailed knowledge, as a torpedo officer on a submarine destroyer during both WWII and the Korean War, for this suspenseful, high-adventure novel in which a misfit and possibly dispensable crew are selected for an unorthodox, globally important, secret submarine mission.
A touch of rubbing to the upper and lower spine edges, crimp to the upper spine, mild fading to the inner hinge area as usual, else very tight and nearly fine in black over blue linen with white titles to the spine, blue and white headband and tail-band; in a very good dust jacket with small chips and rub-wear to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips; original printed $6.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
Octavo; 159 pages.
