The inscribee's name "Jean Miller" is printed to the upper edge of the half-title page, in the same blue ink as used for the inscription. Stephens draws on his first-hand experiences and detailed knowledge, as a torpedo officer on a submarine destroyer during both WWII and the Korean War, for this suspenseful, high-adventure novel in which a misfit and possibly dispensable crew are selected for an unorthodox, globally important, secret submarine mission.
