Item description
THE ELEPHANT AND THE KANGAROO
by T.H. White
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, (1947).
First edition, first printing.
Illustrated with numerous charming and detailed carpentry sketches by T.H. White.
A fun fantasy set in Ireland that begins with Archangel Michael coming to a poor farm couple and asking them to build an ark and start the human race afresh. T.H. White is himself in the tale, and, after meeting the Archangel, offers a hand at ark carpentry work.
Fine in polished black linen with gilt embossed harp feather to the front cover, and with gilt embossed titles, rules, and decorations to the spine; in a near fine dust jacket with a few minuscule edge-tears, a small nick to the lower spine edge, and just a hint of fading to the spine panel, illustrated end-papers; original printed $2.75 price still intact to the front inner flap.
Octavo; 254 pages.
