First edition, first printing.
Enhanced with forty-five photographs on striking brown sepia plates.
Small address square stamped to lower corner of front paste-down end-paper, outer page edges slightly foxed, else near fine in plum linen with gilt titles and rules embossed to the spine, top page edges plum; in a price-clipped very good plus dust jacket with slight white foxing to the rear panel, minor fading to the spine panel, and tiny shelf-edge nicks.
Forty-five illustrations, many from early candid photographs, add nostalgic appeal to this account of a wide assortment of Victorians, many women, participating in the adventuresome sport of mountaineering.
