Item description
CAPTAIN ORKLE'S TREASURE
by Harriet Micocci
Illustrated by Dora
New York: Ivan Oblensky/ An Astor Book, (1961).
First edition, first printing.
Micocci, editor of a labor series in Washington D.C, gathered her ideas for the two well-received children's adventure books she wrote, from her surroundings. Her husband and children were rebuilding a sailboat they found abandoned in the Chesapeake Bay when she got the inspiration for this adventure tale.
Two children are shanghaied to a ship, where they have a well-plotted adventure involving a benign pirate, a parrot, a sea serpent, and a dragon.
A charming, yet suspenseful tale with engaging black-and-white illustrations by Dora.
Fine in grey linen with an illustration of a blue conch-shell to the front cover, and blue titles to the spine; in a nearly fine, lightly soiled dust jacket; original $3.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
Ms. Micocci's books are quite scarce, especially in such fresh condition.
A delightful gift item!
