Item description
Hand Carved Monkey Pod Wood
Lazy Susan, 3 Tiers, Phillipines, Circa 1970s
This elegant three tiered hand carved wooden lazy susan was made in the Phillipines in the the 1960s. In some regions this is called monkey pod wood in others it is called raintree. It has the popular pineapple design that you frequently see in ornate Hawaiian pieces. Beautifully carved with an intricate design on the edges, the piece is not only decorative but practical. It has room for bowls of food on two of the shelves or for knick knacks to put on display. The pieces of the pineapple top are shaped like little spoons for dip, sauces, cheese, etc. As you can see from the pictures it comes apart for easy storage.
This piece is used but not damaged and has an interesting history. A young airman stationed in Bilibago on the Island of Luzon in the Philippines in the 1960s purchased the lazy susan in a local market to take to his mother when he went home to the States. The Vietnam veteran is in his 70s now and having no children has decided to share this heirloom with someone .
The perfect vintage item for your party table or for your display of other memorabilia. Buy this little slice of history today while it lasts.
