Item description

Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the 1950's war drama/romance, D-DAY THE SIXTH OF JUNE, released in 1956 by 20th Century-Fox and directed by Henry Koster. En route to Normandy, an American and a British officer reminisce in flashback about their romances with the same woman. The image features an interior medium shot inside the office of Lt. Col. Alexander Timmer (Edmond O'Brien) as he barks out orders to Capt. Brad Parker (Robert Taylor). As indicated in the center of the bottom border, this is scene card number 6 from the set of 8 cards. It is unrestored in fine+ condition with light signs of wear on the corners. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and the color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading. This movie is based on the 1955 romantic war novel, “The Sixth of June,” by Lionel Shapiro. Shapiro had been a World War II Canadian war correspondent for 'The Montreal Gazette'. He actually landed with the Canadian armed forces on D-Day for the the Allied invasion of Sicily, Salerno and Juno Beach. 'The Sixth of June' novel won the Governor General's Award for English Language Fiction. This movie was originally going to be filmed in England but it ended up being filmed in California, USA, on location there and at the Fox Studio back-lot. Jean Simmons was originally cast in the lead female acting role as Valerie Russell but the part eventually went to Dana Wynter. The naval scenes were shot at the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard at Terminal Island (between the San Pedro district of Los Angeles and the city of Long Beach) whilst the beach landing was filmed at California's Point Dume, a promontory on the Malibu Coast of the Pacific Ocean.
