Hayden) in our inventory and sold separately. They were taken in studios in Hempstead, Long Island, New York and Reading, Pennsylvania. Comments: This photo was originally part of a collection of a couple dozen Carte de Visite (CDV) images of students and faculty from the school year 1881-1882 at Westfield Normal School. The school was founded in 1838 by noted educator and social reformer Horace Mann as the first public co-educational college in America without barrier to race, gender, or economic class. It is known today as Westfield State University.
