Item description

10.5? Barcelona Spike Dagger, Medieval Baselard* + Leather Sheath, Sharp! ??? Based on the 14th Century Baselard Dagger sometimes referred to as a Swiss Dagger or Barcelona Spike Dagger, the style was popular throughout Europe. Double edged dagger with incredible piercing ability due to triangular shape of blade tapering to strong narrow point. 10.25" overall, 6? stainless blade, 2? wide at ricasso, 3.75? handle,11.75? OA in sheath, thick leather sheath with large 3.5? + belt loop. Brass guard pommel, stainless blade, handle is NOT wood as stated elsewhere, it?s a tough ABS* molded into shape of a twisted spiral, and sheath is NOT two-tone leather shown in other listings. This version is SHARP ~ a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. Comments: Good materials and construction, and at this price I expect you?ll be pleased. I?m a collector and a weekend warrior, active in my local Re-enactment group and at Renaissance Fairs, so I get lots of feedback. I sell what I own and can recommend! All photos are mine and I try to show you details that are overlooked in manufacturer?s stock photos, and that most sellers seem oblivious to. See my seller ratings and buy with confidence, plus I ship fast! ??? * Originally a knightly dagger, an indispensable sidearm and part of full military dress of nobles, the Swiss basler, or baselard found it's way into all parts of Western European society. By the mid-14th century, the baselard was a popular weapon carried by the more violence-prone portion of civilian society who were not allowed swords, and several German laws of the 14th to 15th centuries outlawed the carrying of a baselard inside a city. By the late 14th century, it became fashionable in much of Western Europe, including France, Italy, Germany, Spain and England. One historian (c. 1400) records a song lampooning the use of oversized baselard knives as fashion accessories, and the Middle English poet Piers Plowman satirized them as as a weapon with 'vain gaudiness'. So, apparently the weapon of choice of knights, ruffians, and gentlemen! * ABS is stronger and harder than regular plastic. Because of it?s these properties, it?s widely used for purposes ranging from car bumpers and motorcycle helmets to musical instruments, golf clubs and Legos.
